Best TradingView Indicators for NQ Futures (and Why Less Is More)

Open any beginner's chart and you will usually find five or six indicators fighting for space. More lines feel like more information, but they usually just mean more confusion.

The problem with too many indicators

Most indicators are built from the same price data. RSI, stochastic and MACD often tell you the same thing three different ways. When they disagree, you hesitate. When they agree, it is often too late.

A good chart answers three questions quickly:

  1. Which way is the trend?
  2. Is now a good place to enter?
  3. Where is my stop and where is my target?

Indicators that earn their place on NQ

1. Moving averages. A stack of EMAs (for example 9, 21, 50 and 200) shows trend direction and strength at a glance. When they are stacked in order and spreading apart, the trend is healthy.

2. Volume. NQ moves hardest when volume comes in. A breakout on low volume deserves suspicion.

3. Session levels. The overnight high and low and the previous day's high and low act as magnets and barriers for NQ.

4. A higher timeframe filter. Checking the 5 or 15 minute trend before taking a 1 minute entry filters out a lot of bad trades.

Why I built Wave Rider

I was tired of juggling separate indicators, so I built one that combines them. Here is how the Wave Rider indicator works in detail. Wave Rider shows:

  1. Trend confirmation from the EMA stack
  2. A higher timeframe gate so you only trade with the bigger trend
  3. Entry signals with a structure based stop
  4. TP1, TP2 and TP3 targets plotted on the chart
  5. A live status panel showing bias, risk and current target
  6. Alerts sent to your phone

The point is a cleaner chart and fewer decisions, not more lines.

How to clean up your own chart

  1. Remove anything you cannot explain in one sentence
  2. Keep one trend tool, one entry tool and your key levels
  3. Use the same layout every day
