How the Wave Rider Indicator Works: Entries, Stops and Three Targets

Wave Rider is the indicator behind the strategy results on our homepage. Here is what it does on your chart and how members use it.
Step 1: read the trend
Wave Rider tracks a stack of exponential moving averages. When they line up in order and slope the same way, the trend is clear. Bars are coloured to make it obvious:
- Green: strong trend
- Amber: caution
- Red: trend breaking down
Step 2: check the higher timeframe
Before any signal fires, Wave Rider checks the bigger picture. If the 1 minute chart says buy but the higher timeframe trend is down, there is no signal. This one filter removes a lot of the trades that catch beginners out.
Step 3: the entry
When the trend, the higher timeframe and the price action all agree, Wave Rider prints a WAVE BUY or WAVE SELL label. Signals only confirm on a closed candle, so they do not appear and then vanish.
Step 4: the stop
Every entry comes with a structure stop placed beyond a recent swing point. You know exactly what you are risking before you enter, which makes position sizing simple.
Step 5: three targets
Wave Rider plots three profit targets:
- TP1 at 1 times your risk
- TP2 at 2 times your risk
- TP3 at 3 times your risk
Many traders take part of the position off at each target. The stop only trails once the trade is in profit.
Step 6: alerts
Entries, target hits and stop changes can be sent as alerts, so you do not have to stare at the screen all day. You can even send them to your broker through TradersPost.
What Wave Rider does not do
It does not trade for you, and it does not remove risk. It is a tool that makes the decision clearer. You still choose whether to take the trade, and you still need a risk plan.
