Trading Mentorship vs Course vs Signals Group: Which Is Worth It?

When you want to learn to trade, you will run into three main options: a course, a signals group or a mentorship. They are often sold as the same thing, but they work in very different ways.
Trading courses
A course is a fixed set of lessons, usually recorded videos and some PDFs.
Good for: learning terminology, chart basics and how markets work. The catch: nobody watches you trade. Most people finish the course, open a chart, and freeze because real price action never looks like the examples.
Signals groups
A signals group tells you when to buy and sell. You copy the trade.
Good for: people who only want trade ideas and are happy to rely on someone else. The catch: you learn almost nothing. Signals often arrive late, after the move has started. Prop firms also take a dim view of copy trading, and some will close accounts that mirror other traders. If the group disappears, so does your edge.
Mentorships
A mentorship pairs you with an experienced trader who teaches you a system, watches you practise and corrects your mistakes.
Good for: beginners who want to become independent, and traders who keep failing prop evaluations. The catch: it takes effort. You have to show up, practise and follow rules even when it is boring.
A simple way to decide
Ask yourself one question: in a year's time, do you want to understand every trade you take?
If the answer is yes, a mentorship is the only option of the three that gets you there. A course gives you theory. Signals give you trades. A mentorship gives you a skill.
What a good mentorship should include
- One market, taught properly, rather than everything at once
- A rules based system with clear entries, stops and targets
- Live sessions so you see the system working in real conditions
- Practice on a simulator or replay before risking real money
- Somewhere to ask questions every day
How the Wave Rider Mentorship works
We focus on one market, NQ, the Nasdaq futures. You learn one system, Wave Rider, which plots entries, stops and three take profit levels on your chart. You practise with me on replay and the simulator, then move to a prop firm evaluation with a written risk plan.
The indicator does the watching. I teach you the trading. The goal is that you can trade on your own, not depend on me forever.
